About the exhibition -
The goal of this exhibition, held in October 2025, was to strengthen the ties of the queer community of the Boone area through art, conversation, and the concept of building your own safety as a collective. This exhibition displayed 15 mixed media works in varying shapes and sizes, with patchworked fabric and painting on their surface. The work makes connections between queerness and craft, secrecy and radicality, safety and political unrest.
The queer community has been through and continues to go through adversity, but we are resilient. We have created kinship, culture, and even our own languages. This work uses these visual, cultural, and adorned languages queer people have created to survive and build connections. The community has, and will, build our own safety in radical yet subtle ways.
